The intriguing capital city of Phnom Penh, formerly referred to as “the Pearl of Asia,” is one of the most beautiful cities in Indochina. It was created in the 1920s and still has colonial and traditional Khmer charm when we visit it.
- At the Royal Palace, which is still the residence of the King, we pay a visit to the Throne room and the Silver Pagoda, both of which are particularly noteworthy.
- After that, you should go to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, also known as the “S-21 School,” which is a museum that is a witness to the tumultuous era that occurred under the Khmer Rouge government.

DAY 3: On the Trail of Khmer Kings: Tracing an Ancient Capital to Battambang’s Sacred Sites
Onward, we travel to Battambang, continuing our journey. The lengthy journey from Phnom Penh to Battambang affords us the opportunity to witness the way of life of the Khmer people as they go about their daily occupations.
- Oudong, which served as the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia from 1818 until 1866, is the first place we arrive. On our tour, we go to the Oudong Monastery, which is the largest monastery in Cambodia, as well as the hill that is close to it. On the hill, we find sacred stupas that preserve some relics of the Buddha, and from there, we have an incredible perspective.
- We will make a halt at the town of Pursat in order to pay a visit to the workshops that produce terracotta objects in the village of Kompong Chhnang.
- The popular pagoda of Wat Bopha Vatey will be our next destination, which will be near the town of Moung Ruessei. This will be a very interesting stop for us.
- As soon as we arrive in Battambang, we will immediately proceed to the province’s most popular tourist destination, the well-known Phnom Sampow mountain, which is home to bats that date back hundreds of years.
